Not the money, not Greg Lingo. Plus McIntyre against the four day school week, and Upper Darby drafting a data center ordinance

The Mozino Holdup Is That Nobody Will Take the Title

Somebody said what the Mozino holdup is

Three residents asked about it in a row, and President Billups gave the same answer about it being under advisement and on the table.

One resident questioned a little harder with, “We need an entity to hold the title. Simply put. And the landholder has agreed with that.”

The obstacle is not money…nor is it Greg Lingo’s (un)willingness to sell…a Save The Mozino resident just said the landholder agrees. It’s that UD Township hasnt agreed to take title to the property.

Also, council met in executive session before the meeting to discuss matters related to potential property acquisition.

Save the Mozino Forest coalition

Lee Jordan mentioned they have close to 1,600 petition signatures, a first grant application submitted. Coverage in the news, including the Inquirer, Grid mag, TV and podcasts.

And the political support, on the record from Rep Mary Gay Scanlon, Sen Tim Kearney, County Council members Monica Taylor and Elaine Schaefer, and Rep Heather Boyd.

Lee also urged a YES vote on the county’s $120mil green ballot initiative in November.

Bonnie Hallam followed up by reminding council exactly what it said in August…that it was tabling the CMU to explore both the unanswered questions and the possible conservation of the forest.

McIntyre came out against the four day school week

On the Upper Darby School District’s four day school week proposal: “it’s not something that I support. I think that it’s a really bad idea. The data doesn’t support it.”

His argument is that we have a literacy crisis and need to be providing more things for kids to do after school, not less.

He also touched on the fact that letting out school four days a week will very quickly become a township problem. Township resources used in the response to the crises that these things cause.

He said council has already seen a lot of comments from residents about it, and that he’s made multiple attempts to set up regular communication with the school board and will push for cross committee meetings in the next couple of months.

Upper Darby data center ordinance is in progress

McIntyre said that Planning and Zoning met a couple of weeks ago and the main conversation was around getting ahead of data centers.

His framing is that Upper Darby is not a first choice currently for a data center, but that they should still implement the best protections possible to protect the community.

There are ample municipalities drafting date center ordinances at the same time that Trainer is issuing favorable zoning opinions and telling their residents to “have an open mind.”
